OUR HISTORY
Master watchmakers since 1901
Our unique establishments are an obligatory reference of the traditional Sevillian physiognomy. Founded in 1901, it has a family tradition that goes back six generations. The company’s history began in the Levantine region of Spain. The main office was located in Gandía and there was a branch in Alcoy. The grandfather of the current owners of El Cronómetro came to Seville for various reasons and got one of the best commercial enclaves in the city, currently the headquarters of the watchmaker’s shop.
The Sanchís family, owner of the company, was concerned from the very beginning to maintain the initial image of the premises. Since 1901 the appearance of the premises has not changed much, initially there was only one clock on the facade, now it has six.
El Cronómetro also has an industrial watchmaking department where it has contributed to the design of the construction of the Monumental Water Clock, installed in the lake of La Isla de la Cartuja, or the restoration of the clock that has guided the prayers of the monks who lived in the Monastery of La Cartuja since the 18th century.
In short, El Cronómetro is one of the most traditional establishments in Seville. It has antique and unique pieces that will soon be part of the museum that the store will house with the pieces rescued from the wonderful collection of watches owned by its founder.
Among its clientele are the most select families of Andalusia and members of the Royal Family.
